Exquisite Playground
Play is time-fluid, uninhibited, intuitive, en-JOY-able. Play restores energy and hope. Play is something we look forward to, reward ourselves with, and is the opposite of work. Play is unencumbered, ageless, permission to be silly and unrestrained, a release from worry, a distraction from illness. It can be shared experience and it can be a solo experience – and it can be both at the same time! Playtime offers a smile of anticipation. Just thinking of playing makes us less anxious. Looking forward to play is almost as restorative as active playing.
This entry is an architecturalized version of the game Exquisite Corpse, created through play! First, each group member brought several images of projects, real or imagined, to a design charette. Images contained favorite works of architecture, favorite restaurants, imagined landscapes, and play structures. Group members took turns cutting and pasting architectural and play features to a background image, each move a reaction to the previous.
The result is a place, unconstrained from limitations, to hold all these thoughts. A place to find laughter and remember curiosity. A place to be authentically ourselves - unjudged, accepted, and loved.
